摘要Neopterin is a catabolic product of guanosine triphosphate, a purine nucleotide. Measuring neopterin concentrations in biological fluids such as urine provides information about cellular immune activation in humans under control of T helper cells. A high neopterin concentration in bodily fluids, including serum and urine, indicates cellular immunity activation, which is associated with oxidative stress. In this work, neopterin is the target molecule and imprinted onto poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) via solvent evaporation. The template molecules on the thin film are then removed, and the membrane is used as a sensing element for electrochemical urinalysis. Poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) containing 27 mol% ethylene had high imprinting effectiveness and may be integrated with the proposed portable biosensor. In random urine analysis, the cyclic voltammetry measurements of neopterin with an additional recovery method achieved >95% recovery for the neopterin concentration of 15 ng/mL.

摘要The U.S. Food and Drug Administration allows a maximum of 72 mg of caffeine per 12 oz. serving (6 mg/oz). Consuming 400 mg of caffeine 3 times daily for 7 days may develop sleep disruption effects. However, it is still very hard for people to estimate how much caffeine is intake daily. Moreover, (-)epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is studied a potent antioxidant that may have therapeutic properties for anti-aging and cancer. Conventionally, both caffeine and EGCG could be measured by the protocols of high performance liquid chromatography; however, high precision instruments are required. In this work, the caffeine and EGCG are used as the template molecules and imprinted into poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol), EVAL, via solvent evaporation. The EVAL membrane is then used as the sensing element for electrochemical analysis after templates removal. From the cyclic voltammetry measurement of the caffeine, the peak oxidation potential is shifted from 0.36 to 0.46 V when the final concentration of caffeine is from 0.01 to 1 mg/mL, and the highest current density is about 0.18 μA/cm2. The caffeine and EGCG concentrations measured in three real samples are about 0.10-0.13 mg/mL and 0.49-1.74 mg/mL, respectively. This molecularly imprinted polymeric coated electrode is potential employed as a home-care system.

摘要Abstract—In this paper, an ultra-wideband bandpass filter was accomplished. The proposed filter is constructed by using a coupled three line microstrip structure and a stepped-impedance open stub (SIOS), connected at the symmetrical plane of the filter to increase the passband selectivity. The measured result shows the centered frequency of the passband at 3.97GHz with low insertion loss of 0.48 dB and wide 3-dB fractional bandwidth (FBW) of 45.3% from 3.1GHz to 4.9GHz. Two transmission zeros are obtained near the passband at 2.72GHz and 5.71GHz with good rejection level of 50.3 dB and 60.5 dB, respectively. The measured results of the fabricated ultra-wideband bandpass filter also show a good agreement with the simulated ones.

摘要Abstract—In this paper, a wide-stopband bandpass filter is presented. The proposed filter only used two stepped-impedance resonators (SIRs) with a simple electric-coupling structure to accomplish a widestopband response. The passband of the proposed filter is designed for global system for mobile communications (GSM) at 1.8 GHz. The spurious responses of the SIRs are suppressed by controlling the locations of the transmission zeros effectively. The measured results show the passband at 1.8 GHz with a low insertion loss 1.18 dB, and the 3 dB fractional bandwidth (FBW) of 14.1%. The rejection of the stopband is greater than 14 dB from 2.1 to 17.7GHz, a stopband bandwidth of 9.8 times of the fundamental frequency. The measured result of the fabricated filter also shows a good agreement with the simulated result.

摘要This paper proposes a 3rd-order low-distortion delta-sigma modulator (DSM). The 3rd-order noise shaping is achieved by a single opamp (excluding the quantizer). In the proposed DSM structure, the timing limitation on the quantizer and dynamic element matching (DEM) logic in a conventional low-distortion structure can be relaxed from a non-overlapping interval to half of the clock period. A cyclic analog-to-digital converter with a loading-free technique is utilized as a quantizer, which shares an opamp with the active adder. The signal transfer function (STF) is preserved as unity, which means that the integrators process only the quantization noise component. As a result, the opamp used for the integrators has lower requirements, as low-distortion DSMs, on slew rate, output swing, and power consumption. The proposed 3rd-order DSM with a 4-bit cyclic-type quantizer is implemented in a 90-nm CMOS process. Under a sampling rate of 80 MHz and oversampling ratio of 16, simulation results show that an 81.97-dB signal-to-noise and distortion ratio and an 80-dB dynamic range are achieved with 4.17-mW total power consumption. The resulting figure of merit (FOM) is 81.5 fJ/conversion-step.

摘要In this paper, we design and implement a low-cost and standalone potentiostat for the signal processing of electrochemical biosensors, and further exert the vanillylmandelic acid biosensing to verify its performance. In the experiment, we adopt a personal digital assistant (PDA), rather than using a personal computer (PC), to set the experimental parameters to the potentiostat through Bluetooth wireless communication. The biosensor’s measurement is controlled by a mixed-signal microprocessor, and the measured data are stored in a memory card. The power supply of the standalone potentiostat is provided by a USB charger. When the experiment is finished, the data stored in memory card can be retrieved and analyzed by a computer. Our experimental results show that the proposed potentiostat has the merits of good accuracy, low cost, low power consumption, and high portability.

摘要In this paper, we design a voltammetry potentiostat chip with wide range current measurement for the signal processing of electrochemical biosensors. In this design, the current of biosensors will be detected and divided into four regions, and then be diminished in accordance with corresponding current scaling ratio. All the ranges of the biosensor’s current will be diminished to a proper current range (?2.5 μA) and then be converted into frequency-modulated pulses by a sigma–delta modulator in a fixed conversion time. The aim of this design is to deal with the large dynamic current range of signal processing for different biosensors in applications. The measured results of proposed potentiostat can be digitized by a microprocessor without using a high resolution ADC. The proposed potentiostat is fabricated by 0.35 μm CMOS technology, and the chip layout core area is 0.31 mm2. The function of the proposed potentiostat has been tested and measured in our laboratory, and the measurement results show that the dynamic range of signal processing, from 1 nA to 2 mA, is 126 dB. The power consumption under normal operation is 10 mW. The proposed voltammetry potentiostat has successfully applied to the signal processing system of a melatonin biosensor.

摘要In this paper, we design and implement a portable potentiostat by using dual-microprocessors for the signal processing of electrochemical biosensors. In our design approach, one of the microprocessors is used to design the programmable waveform generator, and the other microprocessor is used to measure the current of biosensors. The proposed potentiostat can perform general electrochemical analysis functions, including cyclic voltammetry, linear sweep voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry, amperometry, and potentiometry. In the experiment, we adopt a commercial screen printed electrode immersed in potassium ferricyanide solution to test the performance of the proposed potentiostat and compare the proposed potentiostat’s measured results with a commercial potentiostat’s (CH Instrument Model: CHI1221) under the same test condition. The experimental results show that the proposed potentiostat has the merits of good accuracy, low cost, low power consumption, and high portability.

摘要Changing demographics, the rise of personalized medicine and increased identification of biomarkers for diagnosis and management of chronic disease have increased the demand for portable bioanalytical instrumentation and point-of-care. The recent development of molecularly imprinted polymers enables production of low cost and highly stable sensing chips; however, the commercially available and full functional instruments employed for electrochemical analysis have shortcomings in actual homecare applications. In this work, integrated circuits (ICs) for monolithic implementation of voltammeter potentiostat with a large dynamic current range (5 nA to 1.2 mA) and short conversion time (10 ms) were fabricated in a 0.35 μm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) process. The new instrumentation was tested with molecular imprinted sensors for 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid (3HAA) in urine. The sensor consisted of molecular imprinted of poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol)s (abbreviated as EVALs) for implementation in a flow injection analysis system. The EVAL containing 32 ethylene mol% had the highest imprinting effectiveness for the target molecules. Fit-for-purpose figures of merit were achieved with a limit-of-detection (LOD) of 3.06 pg/mL. The measurements obtained in real undiluted urine samples fell within the reference concentration range of 50–550 ng/mL.

摘要In this paper, we design a voltammetry potentiostat chip with wide range current measurement for the signal processing of electrochemical biosensors. In this design, the current of biosensors will be detected and divided into four regions, and then be diminished in accordance with corresponding current scaling ratio. All the ranges of the biosensor’s current will be diminished to a proper current range (≤ 2.5 μA) and then be converted into frequency-modulated pulses by a sigma-delta modulator in a fixed conversion time. The aim of this design is to deal with the large dynamic current range of signal processing for different biosensors in applications. The measured results of proposed potentiostat can be digitized by a microprocessor without using a high resolution ADC. The proposed potentiostat is fabricated by 0.35 μm CMOS technology, and the chip layout core area is 0.31 mm2. The function of the proposed potentiostat has been tested and measured in our laboratory, and the measurement results show that the dynamic range of signal processing, from 1nA to 2mA, is 126 dB. The power consumption under normal operation is 10 mW.

摘要In this paper, we develop potentiostatic biosensors and biological monitoring records in cloud computing for home care application. In home care application, the potentiostatic biosensors are used to examine some important biomarkers such as albumin, uric acid, glucose, urea, creatine and creatinine in urine, which are correlated with kidney function. The examined results of these biomarkers will be transmitted to the server in cloud by Wi-Fi wireless communication, and then will be translated into biological monitoring results and be stored in the biological monitoring records. The users can retrieve these records by means of a smart phone or a remote PC through internet at any time and any place to understand their health condition. Meanwhile, doctors can diagnose patients’ health conditions in long-term care according to the proposed biological monitoring record. The experimental results show that the proposed system has the merits of good accuracy, low cost, and long-term care capability.

摘要Changing demographics, the rise of personalized medicine and increased identification of biomarkers for diagnosis and management of chronic disease have increased the demand for portable bioanalytical instrumentation and point-of-care. The recent development of molecularly imprinted polymers enables production of low cost and highly stable sensing chips; however, the commercially available and full functional instruments employed for electrochemical analysis have shortcomings in actual homecare applications. In this work, integrated circuits (ICs) for monolithic implementation of voltammeter potentiostat with a large dynamic current range (5 nA to 1.2 mA) and short conversion time (10 ms) were fabricated in a 0.35 μm complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) process. The new instrumentation was tested with molecular imprinted sensors for 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid (3HAA) in urine. The sensor consisted of molecular imprinted of poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol)s (abbreviated as EVALs) for implementation in a flow injection analysis system. The EVAL containing 32 ethylene mol-% had the highest imprinting effectiveness for the target molecules. Fit-for-purpose figures of merit were achieved with a limit-of-detection (LOD) of 3.06 pg/mL. The measurements obtained in real undiluted urine samples fell within the reference concentration range of 50- 550 ng/mL.

摘要In this paper, we design and implement a portable potentiostat by using dual-microprocessors for the signal processing of electrochemical biosensors. In our design approach, one of the microprocessors is used to design the programmable waveform generator, and the other microprocessor is used to measure the current of biosensors. The proposed potentiostat can perform general electrochemical analysis functions, including cyclic voltammetry, linear sweep voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry, amperometry, and potentiometry. In the experiment, we adopt a commercial screen printed electrode immersed in potassium ferricyanide solution to test the performance of the proposed potentiostat and compare the proposed potentiostat’s measured results with a commercial potentiostat’s (CH Instrument Model: CHI1221) under the same test condition. The experimental results show that the proposed potentiostat has the merits of good accuracy, low cost, low power consumption, and high portability.
