摘要The research goal is to ascertain the current beliefs of the parents of preschool children regarding art education in Taiwan. Background factors on the parents were tested to show the differences between the parents’ beliefs regarding art education and the actual art achievements of the children. From there, relationships between the beliefs and the actual achievements were analyzed and established. The researcher prepared the self-completion survey and distributed 400 copies to parents; 268 copies were returned with an effective return rate of 67%.The findings were as follows: I. Preschool parents viewed children’s art education from four aspects–children’s artistic development, children’s art courses, parental art beliefs, and teachers’ professionalism in art. II. Differences in the art education beliefs of preschool parents with different background factors: A. Parents from different types of preschools show significant differences in terms of the children’s art curriculum. B. Parents’ gender shows significant differences toward their beliefs regarding art education. C. Parents’ education shows significance differences in the dimension of children’s art courses. D. The location of the family residence shows significant differences in parental beliefs regarding art education. III. Differences in children’s achievements in art education depend on the different background factors of the preschool parents: A. The location of the family residence shows significant differences in children’s art satisfaction. IV. Parental approval of children’s learning outcomes is in direct proportion to preschool parental beliefs regarding art education. V. Preschool parental beliefs regarding art education are predictive of children’s learning outcomes, especially in the area of children’s art courses.

摘要Current kindergarten parents’ attitudes toward and beliefs about children’s art education in majority cities and counties of Taiwan were investigated. A review of the literature was conducted to identify several possible influences on parents’ interpretation/ assessment of children’s art education. Then, the researcher developed and distributed a questionnaire for parents; 1,010 copies were distributed and 800 copies returned—of these, 758 were valid. Findings were as follows: (1) Parents’ occupations, educational backgrounds, genders, ages, classes attended by children, and children’s genders had significant effects on the interpretation of children’s art education. (2) More than 66% of Taiwanese kindergarten teachers used the theme-based teaching approach. (3) Over 72% of parents believed that kindergarten art educators should have basic drawing skills and familiarity with art supplies and craft equipment. (4) Majority parents believed children could attend art classes by 3 years of age, and also informed that their children had attended art classes at that age.

摘要The objectives of the study were to investigate the current status of applying picture books when teaching children and to also compare the differences in picture book teaching between teachers with different background variables and who are from Taiwan’s outlying islands. The researcher distributed 179 questionnaires, and after eliminating invalid questionnaires, 177 valid questionnaires were obtained, achieving a questionnaire efficiency of 98.88%. The quantitative data were analyzed by a t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Product Moment Correlation and Multiple Regression. The results were: 1. The overall status for picture book selection by early childhood educators was considered moderate to high. 2. The primary considerations for picture book selection were ‘theme’ and ‘adopting a child’s viewpoint’. 3. The overall status for the application of picture book teaching strategies among early childhood educators was considered moderate to high. 4. The application of picture book teaching strategies was centered on ‘strategies for the promotion of thinking and activities’ and ‘developing diverse abilities in children’. 5. There is a positive correlation and predictive power between selecting and using picture books by preschool educators.

摘要This study was initially based on past references and relevant researches to analyse and discuss the motivation and reasons for how aboriginal parents selecting children’s picture books. And also, it applied the perspective on characters of visual art and cultural characters of children’s picture books with data of in-depth interview to compile a questionnaire named “The Questionnaire for the Attitude Towards Aboriginal Parents’ Selecting and Using of Picture Books.” Before collecting data, the researcher sent the concern form to the participants, and all of them want to participate in this research. In addition, the study used stratified random sampling and targeted primarily at aboriginal parents in Taitung. The sum of questionnaires was 300 with 267 effective questionnaires. Therefore, after retrieving the data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, one way ANOVA, and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient methods and concluded out below results: 1. The majority of parents’ selection on children’s picture books was based on “the gender of children” and “the price of picture books”. Aboriginal Parents reading with their children less than 1 hour per week, and they spent less than 10 euros on purchasing picture books per month. 2. The majority of aboriginal parents share picture books with their children based on “colors” & “different materials”. Take colors for example, The Amis tribe prefer the picture books that is used red, white, and black. 3. Aboriginal Parents’ selection of picture books will be verified due to “different domestic-caregivers” and “the number of siblings—most of them purchase picture book for the firstborn.” 4. Aboriginal parents’ use on children’s picture books will be changed because of “gender—mother purchased more books than father”, “age—20-30 years old parents purchased more picture books than 40-50 ones”, and “different domestic-caregivers”. 5. The majority of parents use children’s picture books on “colours”, “different materials”, “product design”, “parent-child interaction”, “self-oral expression”, “interests in reading”, “abstract thought” “the sense of humor ”, and “brain-storming . 6. The selection of children’s picture books will be verified due to “different domestic-caregivers” and “the number of siblings”; the parents’ use on children’s picture books will be changed because of “gender”, “age”, and “different domestic-caregivers”. 7. The parents’ motivation of selecting children’s picture books will be changed by “gender”, “different domestic-caregivers”, and “different siblings”; the reasons of why parents’ select a children’s picture book will be verified due to “different domestic-caregivers”. 8. When parents’ apply visual art characters of children’s picture books, it will be changed because of “gender”; by applying cultural characters of children’s picture books, it will be changed due to “different domestic-caregivers”.

摘要This study is an action research that investigates the process of theme-based teaching activities with the aid of English picture books used by preschool teachers in kindergarten curriculum. This research is conducted in a southern Taiwan kindergarten with 15 children aged 3-4 years old as participants. A total of 14 English picture books and children ballads that are related to the 3 specified teaching themes are used and integrated in the theme-based activities for 15 weeks. A series of research data were collected including self-examinations of teaching, records of participant observation, anecdotal records, children’s learning profiles and the feedback of picture books. After being gathered, these data were triangulated to enhance the dependability, credibility, confirmability, and transferability of this study. The result of this study showed a higher interest in learning English after picture books were introduced in the theme-based activities. Furthermore, English comprehension of participants in listening, speaking, reading and writing had all matched indicators of affection shared in the English picture books. The exhibition of English picture books in the studying area and extensive activities provided children more opportunities to learn actively as well as to expand and integrate learning experiences. The circulation of English picture books also proved that parents endorsed reading of picture books and recognized the positive effect on children’s English comprehension and learning interest.
